Mature Garden During Drought
The Orb Vertical Garden that is part of the Backyard Agriculture
package has an underground irrigation system that supplies moisture
during extremely dry weather. The prototype garden in Virginia pictured
here is seen in mid-August during one of the severest droughts in the
history of the region. It was watered once a week during this time
period. The results can be seen in the vitality of the adjacent
grass that benefited from the water that was placed 18" below the
surface using the underground irrigation system.

Underground
irrigation reduces loss of water to evaporation while
providing even distribution of the water to all plants.
|
The
garden is watered from either stand pipe.
|
Once the Garden is prepared, an intensive plant layout
is installed. In climate with 12 month growing season, this garden
will supply a major portion of the food requirements for a family of 6.
|
The "stand pipes" used for watering the garden
will be covered with a cloth "sock" to prevent
debris and critters from clogging the system.
This garden is ready for planting.
